Last week, President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance met with Zelensky to address a range of issues, with the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia being the central concern.<\/p>\n
The meeting became tense when Trump and Vance expressed their disappointment with Zelensky\u2019s apparent lack of gratitude and reluctance to engage in ceasefire talks with Russia.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re gambling with the lives of millions of people,\u201d Trump said during the conversation. \u201cYou\u2019re gambling with World War Three, and what you\u2019re doing is highly disrespectful to this country, which has supported you more than many have said it should,\u201d the U.S. President continued.<\/p>\n
Trump went on to announce that he would pause all military aid to Ukraine, a move which Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described as the \u201cbest contribution to the cause of peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
Following his departure from the White House, Zelensky sent a letter to President Trump, which he read aloud to Congress on March 4, 2025. In the letter, Zelensky stated, \u201cUkraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cMy team and I are prepared to work under President Trump\u2019s strong leadership to achieve lasting peace,\u201d and went on to express gratitude for America\u2019s efforts in helping Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence.<\/p>\n
The letter also mentioned Ukraine\u2019s readiness to sign a deal on rare earth minerals at a time convenient for the United States\u2014a deal originally scheduled during Zelensky\u2019s problematic visit to the White House.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s time to end this senseless war. If you want to end wars, you have to talk to both sides,\u201d President Trump said.<\/p>\n
Moscow appears to appreciate Ukraine\u2019s willingness to negotiate, with Peskov commenting, \u201cWe are positive. The question is with whom to sit at the negotiating table.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, he expressed some uncertainty regarding how this would unfold due to Ukraine\u2019s 2022 decree prohibiting negotiations with Russian President Putin.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor now, the legal ban by the Ukrainian President holding talks with the Russian side remains in effect,\u201d the statement explained.<\/p>\n

Sky News reported that Russia\u2019s assault on Ukraine is still ongoing. On March 4, 2025, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa, killing a 77-year-old woman and injuring three others.<\/p>\n
Regional governor Oleh Kiper confirmed that the woman died from shrapnel wounds on the outskirts of the city, with the drones damaging a private home and sparking fires.<\/p>\n
In response to the 181 drones fired by Russia, Ukraine successfully shot down 115.<\/p>\n
