A devastating crash involving two buses resulted in the deaths of at least 37 individuals and left many others injured.
As reported by Reuters, the accident took place on the road connecting the Bolivian cities of Uyuni and Colchani in the western Potosi region.
The Potosi Departmental Police Command stated that the incident happened early Saturday morning.
A spokesperson for the police department confirmed, “We have recorded 37 fatalities and 39 injuries, with victims being treated in four hospitals in Uyuni due to this tragic accident.”
The injured individuals were transported to a hospital in Uyuni, where they received medical care.
Authorities are still working to identify the victims who lost their lives in the tragedy.
According to a report from the Potosi Departmental Police Command, one of the buses veered into the oncoming lane, likely due to excessive speed, leading to the collision.
To facilitate the recovery of the bodies from the scene, one of the buses had to be tipped onto its side using a crane.
