taped, covering his eyes, and his paws were bound.” He called it the most disgusting act of cruelty he had ever witnessed.
Time was of the essence. Just 30 minutes after Animal Control arrived, a garbage truck came to empty the dumpster. Had the dog not been found, he wouldn’t have survived.
and it was just sitting there and its front and back paws were taped together also.”

He was immediately taken to the Nebraska Humane Society, where staff sedated him and carefully removed the tape. To fully clean him, they had to shave his fur. Fortunately, despite mild skin irritation, the pup was otherwise healthy and even wagged his tail.
With the tape removed, a microchip revealed the dog’s name—Leo. He had been missing for days. His owner, Erin Dillon-Pasillas, had been desperately searching for him since he slipped out of their home while she was taking her son to school. “Every day got more stressful,” Erin said. When she got the call, she was overwhelmed with relief but heartbroken by what Leo had endured.
Now safe at home, Leo is recovering with love and care. Erin plans to give him a bath and a full vet check-up. However, the identity of the person responsible remains unknown. There were no cameras near the dumpster, but NHS is offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.
This shocking case highlights the importance of animal welfare and vigilance in the community. While it’s devastating that someone could treat a dog this way, we’re grateful Leo was found in time and reunited with his family. Hopefully, justice will be served.
