ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent winner, Sydnie Christmas, has reached the final, but life hasn’t always been so glamorous.
Britain’s Got Talent star Sydnie Christmas triumphed in the ITV talent show’s final, securing the grand prize of £250,000.
However, many fans may not know that before her breakthrough on the show—where she earned Amanda Holden’s Golden Buzzer—Sydnie spent years making a living as a professional singer.
A major controversy this season revolves around the fact that Sydnie, 28, was already an experienced performer and was reportedly pre-selected for the show before Amanda advanced her to the live semi-finals.
In fact, Sydnie’s Spotify profile describes her as a professional artist, and she previously released an official single, Heal Me, in 2020.
However, many may not realize that Sydnie had to take on less glamorous jobs while chasing her dreams of stardom.
At 21, she worked as a cleaner to make ends meet, all while pursuing her passion for performing.
In her blog, Sydnie revealed: “Cleaning was just a side job for me. My real job is performing—I sing, dance, and act. I was once the lead singer on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, traveling the world.”
She described her time with Royal Caribbean as one of the best experiences of her life. Leaving home at just 19 during a difficult period, she credited the experience with shaping her into the person she is today and introducing her to lifelong friends.
More recently, Sydnie starred in the musical Lazarus, a production inspired by David Bowie, performed at the Kings Cross Theatre in London. She expressed her excitement about working alongside Michael Hall—best known from the Netflix series Dexter—calling it an unforgettable experience that deepened her appreciation for Bowie’s legacy.
“SO, BETWEEN AUDITIONS, I JUST CLEANED TO STAY AFLOAT.”
Sydnie played ‘Teen Girl Three’ in Lazarus, with the musical’s official website highlighting her diverse experience. Her credits include starring as the lead singer in Star Water aboard Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas, appearing in the feature film Kick-Ass 2, and portraying Sarah in the short film Can You Keep a Secret. She also appeared in the E4 reality series Stage School.
Her biography notes that she performed at London’s King’s Cross Theatre while working on Lazarus. As a teenager, she toured internationally with Royal Caribbean and later starred in Starlight Express in Bochum, Germany.
Before her Britain’s Got Talent audition, Sydnie had two songs on Spotify: Heal Me, which had 1,940 streams, and One Night Only, which had 4,569. After her stunning victory, those numbers soared—Heal Me jumped to 45,927 streams, while One Night Only reached 40,900.
Spotify describes Sydnie as a singer, dancer, actress, and professional roller skater with a strong presence in musical theater. Her past roles include performances in Lazarus – The David Bowie Musical, Grease as Rizzo, and Starlight Express.
While Britain’s Got Talent producers carefully select contestants for the show, the voting process remains genuine—ultimately, it’s the public who decides the winner.
