Kate Middleton and Prince William have long had a deep affection for animals, a love shared by the entire Royal Family. Perhaps the most iconic of their pets were the corgis famously owned by the late Queen Elizabeth.
In 2011, the Prince and Princess of Wales welcomed their first dog, marking the start of their passion for dogs. After the heartbreaking loss of Lupo in 2020, Kate’s brother gave the couple a new dog, Orla, for their three children.
Though not much is known about Orla, who has become a beloved member of the family, Prince William recently shared more about the dog. It turns out that Orla has a rather unique sleeping habit.
While Kate and William come from very different backgrounds, their shared love for animals has been a consistent bond. Kate’s upbringing was ideal, whereas William’s was far more unusual, being the heir to the throne. He also endured the trauma of losing his mother, Princess Diana.
Regarding their life at Adelaide Cottage, little is shared about their daily routine. However, Prince William did mention one interesting detail: their dog Orla often sleeps with him and Kate in their bed.
The Royal Family has a long tradition of owning pets, especially dogs. William appears to have inherited his love of animals from Queen Elizabeth II, who was particularly fond of corgis.
Prince William and Kate Middleton’s dog Lupo played an important role in their lives, even assisting in choosing their son George’s name. The couple struggled to settle on a name for their newborn, so they involved Lupo in the decision. They wrote potential names on scraps of paper and let Lupo choose by walking toward one. The name George was selected in this manner, as Lupo approached the corresponding paper.
When Lupo passed away, William and Kate shared their grief on social media, stating, “Our beloved dog, Lupo, sadly passed away. For the past nine years, he has been the center of our family, and we shall miss him terribly.”
Following Lupo’s death, the Wales family welcomed a new cocker spaniel puppy, Orla, into their home. Orla was adopted from Kate’s brother, James Middleton, and has since become an adored member of the family. George, Charlotte, and Louis now have a furry companion to grow up with.
James Middleton expressed his happiness that the children could enjoy the company of a dog, saying, “I think they’re fortunate to have a dog in their lives.”
Orla’s name, which means “golden princess,” is fitting for a royal dog. In addition to her regal name, Orla is treated with the utmost care at Adelaide Cottage, even sleeping in the couple’s bed.
Prince William recently shared more about Orla during a visit to Duchy College Stoke Climsland in Cornwall, where he met students and their dogs. He revealed that Orla is quite affectionate and enjoys cuddles, adding that she sleeps with him and Kate at night.
It’s always heartwarming to see Prince William’s kindness toward animals and the public. If you think he’ll make a wonderful king, consider sharing this story with your friends and family!
