Britain’s Got Talent fans were all left asking the same question following a contestant’s performance. The beloved ITV show has returned to screens for another exciting series.
This year, regular judges Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, Bruno Tonioli, and Simon Cowell returned to their usual spots on the panel.
In tonight’s episode, fans watched Ping Pong Pong Pange deliver a seamless opening routine that combined dance with ping pong. Following this act was Mickey Callisto, who took the stage with confidence, introducing himself to the judges before announcing he would be performing a rendition of one of Queen’s most iconic ballads.
The 28-year-old from Sunderland delivered his own rendition of Who Wants to Live Forever, captivating the audience. Within minutes, his confidence and stage presence drew comparisons to Queen’s legendary frontman, Freddie Mercury.
The judges echoed these sentiments in their feedback. Alesha Dixon remarked, “Wow, is this Mickey or Freddie? Whatever it was, it was sensational. Your voice is absolutely stunning.”
Bruno Tonioli added, “It was so moving and so touching. I had the honor of working with Freddie—I knew him very well. You’ve captured all his mannerisms perfectly.”
Fans watching at home shared similar thoughts, with many taking to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their opinions.
Kathy commented, “This guy is just a Freddie Mercury copycat entertainer. He sings with the same phrasing and uses the same body moves.”
Tony Coffey questioned, “Is he trying to sound like Freddie Mercury, or is that just his natural voice? #BGT.”
Lisa wrote, “He was brilliant, but was he doing a tribute act? #BGT.”
Oli added, “#BGT There’s a difference between a good singer and a good Freddie impersonator—I think he’s the latter. Not sure how he’d do with other styles of music.”
Despite some reservations, Mickey received a ‘yes’ from the judges.
This year, Britain’s Got Talent returned two months earlier than usual and will run for four months, airing exclusively on Saturdays. The next episode is scheduled for March 29 at 7 PM.
The series will conclude in May, where the winner will take home a £250,000 cash prize and secure a performance slot at the Royal Variety Performance.
