Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed his silence following a reprimand from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance during a meeting in the Oval Office.
Taking to social media, Zelensky expressed gratitude to the United States for its support in Ukraine’s ongoing conflict with Russia, after Vice President Vance had criticized him for not thanking America during his visit.
“Thank you, America, for your support and for this visit. Thank you, @POTUS, Congress, and the American people. Ukraine seeks just and lasting peace, and we are working toward that,” he said.
Later, during an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, Zelensky further thanked the American people, as well as President Trump and Congress, for their bipartisan support, acknowledging their help since the beginning of the war. He emphasized the importance of honesty and direct communication in international relations.
When asked if he owed an apology to Trump, Zelensky replied, “No, I respect the president and the American people. We need to be open and honest, and I’m not sure that anything wrong was done.”
